CITU slams govt’s cab aggregator policy

Ponda: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has opposed govt’s cab aggregator policy for taxi operators in Goa.R Lakshmana, CITU vice president and general secretary of All India Road Transport Workers Federation, said they fear that big corporates like Ola and Uber will undercut rates at the initial stage and, after capturing business, destroy local taxi businesses.Lakshmana said the guidelines benefit corporates and affect taxi operators’ livelihoods, adding that CITU will soon submit a memorandum to govt opposing the policy. He said the Centre plans to launch an all-India taxi app, and private aggregators should be kept on hold until then.CITU Maharashtra secretary, Vivek Monteiro, said that Goa has already lost many jobs in the mining sector.“Tourism is Goa’s main livelihood. With 25,000 taxi owners and families, over one lakh people depend on it. The cab aggregator would gradually destroy their taxi business,” Monteiro said.Nilkanth Fadte, CITU Goa general secretary, said govt is not bothered about local taxi businesses.
