Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush could miss his side’s Premier League encounter against cross-town rivals Manchester United, after the striker picked up a knee ligament injury while on international duty with Egypt.

Marmoush had to be withdrawn in the fourth minute of Egypt’s goalless draw with Burkina Faso in a World Cup qualifier in Ouagadougou and is scheduled to undergo scans in the Capital City of Cairo on Wednesday.

He sustained the injury following a tackle and attempted to continue playing but eventually had to limp off. The Egyptian Football Association stated that the national team doctor confirmed Omar Marmoush’s injury is a bruised knee ligament, and the player will undergo an X-ray upon his arrival in Cairo on Wednesday morning.

City host Manchester United on Sunday, with both teams needing a win after unconvincing starts to the new Premier League season.

Marmoush, 26, has scored eight goals in 28 games for City in all competitions since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £59 million transfer in January.

City have had a shaky start in the current English top-flight season, securing only one win in their three outings and accumulating just 3 points.

City, currently 13th in the league standings, began the season with a dominant 4-0 win over Wolves in their opener but suffered a 0-2 defeat to Tottenham and another 1-2 loss to Brighton.

City face United, who have performed slightly better with 4 points from three outings, having achieved a win, a loss, and a draw in their first three assignments this season.
