A Class 10 student was killed in Sengilikuppam village near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Tuesday after a wall of the house collapsed when he tried to demolish it .

The deceased student has been identified as E. Vetri (14). After the death of his father, Vetri was living with his mother E. Saritha (38) in the village for many years. He was studying Class ten in a government higher secondary school in Ambur town.

Initial inquiry revealed that mother and son were living in a thatched roofed house for many years. The dilapidated single-room structure was leaky and damaged. As a result, they decided to rebuild the house.

The workers were engaged to raze the structure. After returning from school, Vetri tried to demolish a portion of the wall of the house when suddenly the brick structure collapsed on him. He died on the spot.

Based on the alert, Ambur Taluk police inspected the spot and registered a case. Police said the region has been witnessing a sudden downpour for the past few days. Such sudden rain would have weakened the dilapidated structure.
