This is the second incident of the death of a student on the campus as a Class 10 student of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Nuapada collapsed while playing football on December 10.
A Class XI student of central government-run Eklavya Model Residential School of Sundargarh died while participating in a relay race at the school’s annual sports event Wednesday — the second such incident in a month.
Jaydeep Sagar Beka, a native of Sundargarh’s Bhawanipur, had felt queasy after running the first 100 metres, prompting him to abandon the race and sit on a chair, where he collapsed minutes later.
School authorities initially performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedure on the student and rushed him to the nearest government medical college, where doctors declared him dead, a teacher said.

A bright student, Jaydeep had been new to the school this year, having been there only six months. When contacted, local authorities said they had sought a report from the school about the incident and if the school had adequate arrangements at its annual meet to prevent such an incident.
