Recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers took a step to retain their front office. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, they reportedly extended the contract of Koby Altman, the president of basketball operations, for a long period.
As per the ESPN insider, this is most likely because Koby Altman is the architect of the Cleveland Cavaliers club that won 64 games the previous season. They are also expected to start the following campaign as the East's favourite.
Cleveland Cavaliers reward Koby Altman with extension after leading team to 64-win season
According to Shams Charania, Koby Altman will stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers through the 2029-30 NBA season. The ESPN insider took to X on July 14 and wrote:“Cleveland Cavaliers president Koby Altman – the architect of the burgeoning title contender – has signed a contract extension through 2029-30, sources tell ESPN. Cavs' front office, including Mike Gansey and Brandon Weems, received extensions amid rise to No. 1 seed in East…”
According to reports, Koby Altman signed an extension that extends his term by two years.
Shams Charania also mentioned that the team provided "general manager Mike Gansey and assistant general manager Brandon Weems multiyear extensions."The Cleveland Cavaliers made the move months after their 64-18 record earned them the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. However, the team lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the playoffs.Nevertheless, Koby Altman is reportedly hopeful about the team’s future. According to Cleveland.com's Chris Fedor, he stated: "I love our foundation… I love our core.
Our starting lineup, the average age is 26.8. We have two All-Stars that are 25 (Garland) and 23 (Mobley), respectively, and they’re going through it, they’re going through these experiences, they’re going through these battles and we’re sustainable in a lot of ways, not just because guys are under contract, but our youth."

In 2012, Altman began working in the Cavaliers' front office and progressively advanced through the ranks. In the 2016-17 NBA season, he was the team's deputy general manager.
In 2019, he was given a contract extension, and in 2022, he was promoted to his current position.He was eventually able to rebuild this team. It has won at least 48 games in each of the last three seasons and 64 games in the last season. He has helped build a strong Cleveland Cavaliers team, and now the team has shown its trust in him by giving him a new contract.
