Following the leads of a bike theft case, the Adugodi police arrested a 38-year-old readymade cloth vendor from Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu and recovered 42 high-end bikes that he had stolen and sold to his friends and relatives in his hometown.
The accused, has been identified as Kuppaswamy. He used to come to the city in a bus to sell the clothes. While returning, he would allegedly roam around residential areas to identify bikes parked outside houses and steal them.
He would then ride the bikes to his hometown and sell it to his relatives and friends at throwaway prices .
The police, based on the CCTV footage, tracked him down to Krishnagiri and arrested him. With his arrest, the police cracked as many as 37 bike theft cases reported in the last one year in 23 police stations in and around the city. Based on his information, the police recovered all the stolen bikes which were used by his relatives and friends without even changing the number plates.
City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that he would convey to his counterparts in Tamil Nadu and the transport department to keep an eye on such activities in future.
