A cloudburst hit the remote village of Jod Ghati in the Rajbagh area of Kathua district during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, amid heavy overnight rains, officials said.

The sudden deluge has cut off the area, hampering rescue and relief efforts. Preliminary reports suggest there may be some casualties, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed.

Authorities have been alerted, and rescue operations are reportedly underway.
