Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday inaugurated a new Nandini outlet at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda (Majestic) Metro Station, to give a boost to the State’s flagship dairy brand.
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) had in July requested the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to provide space for Nandini parlours in various metro stations. D.K. Suresh, president of Bangalore Milk Union Ltd. (BAMUL), had met senior BMRCL officials to push the proposal. Sources in BMRCL confirmed that KMF will soon set up Nandini outlets in at least five metro stations, while BAMUL has been asked to identify more locations.
The move comes after Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in June directed KMF to apply for BMRCL’s tender for metro outlets, amid opposition criticism that the government was favouring Amul.
Notably, Amul was the only applicant in the earlier tender process and had secured permission to open outlets in 10 metro stations.
