CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister (CM) Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday emphasized that during the crisis caused by floods and severe waterlogging, political parties, public representatives, and citizens must work together with patience and dedication to overcome the situation.
He assured that the state government is committed to providing full support to every affected household, farmer, and community.Addressing the media at Shahabad after interacting with elected representatives of waterlogged villages, CM Saini said nearly 3,000 villages across Haryana have been impacted due to excessive inflow of water from the hills. “Gradually, the water is receding, and the situation is improving.
To compensate for crop and other losses, the government has already opened the e-Kshati portal. So far, 1,69,738 farmers have registered, covering nearly 9,96,701 acres of damaged crops,” Saini added.Earlier in the day, the CM offered prayers at the Maharishi Markandeshwar temple in Shahabad before meeting residents who had been shifted from submerged areas. He assured them that arrangements for food, shelter, drinking water, and even fodder for cattle are being made.
“The government is standing with its people in every circumstance. No family will be left helpless,” he said.Saini explained that Markanda river, which has a carrying capacity of 25,000 cusecs, had received almost 40,000 cusecs of water this time, leading to the overflow and widespread inundation of fields and villages. “Despite cleaning canals, rivers, and drains, the unprecedented volume of water from the hills caused the situation to worsen,” he noted, urging the opposition to contribute suggestions and support instead of politicizing the crisis.CM Saini further informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home inister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda are closely monitoring the flood situation in northern states, including Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. “The Centre has directed Haryana to assist Punjab, which has been affected more severely. Accordingly, we are sending food, drinking water, and fodder for livestock from different districts of Haryana to Punjab,” he said.During his visit to Jhanasa, Ismailabad, and several villages such as Tangaur, Kathwa, and Kalsana, the CM interacted with farmers and villagers, listened to their grievances, and instructed officials to prepare a special long-term plan to ensure that such waterlogging problems do not recur in the future. “Permanent solutions will be implemented for the affected areas. Damaged roads, embankments, and bridges will be repaired swiftly, and pending demands from villagers will also be addressed,” he assured.Later in Babain grain market, CM Saini met residents of Ladwa constituency, collected written complaints, suggestions, and problems from them, and promised that each issue would be resolved. Stressing his personal commitment, he remarked, “Every person in Ladwa constituency is like a family member to me. Their problems are my own family’s problems.” He urged citizens to remain patient until the water recedes and assured that sustainable measures will be undertaken in all affected locations.Highlighting ongoing development initiatives, CM Saini said crores of rupees are already being invested in both rural and urban areas of Ladwa, and an open forum is organized twice a week to hear citizens’ grievances directly. The CM was accompanied by his political advisor Bharat Bhushan Bharti, deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena, superintendent of police Nitish Agarwal, district BJP president Tejendra Singh Goldy, and several local leaders and representatives.
