Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday kept his word, announcing ₹1,000 crore to upgrade Osmania University into a global institution. He delivered the promise from the symbolic heart of Telangana’s statehood struggle — the iconic Arts College — addressing students, faculty members and alumni gathered on campus.

Speaking from the dais beneath the college’s trefoil arches, with the pink granite facade behind him and nearly 9,000 attendees seated in white PVC tents, Mr. Reddy invoked Komuram Bheem’s fight for Adivasi dignity, the armed peasant struggle against feudal exploitation and the Telangana movement.

Now, the mission, he said, is to lay the foundation for OU’s development and global standing.

Joined by Adviser (Public Affairs) K. Keshava Rao, Minister for BC Welfare and Transport Ponnam Prabhakar, Vice Chancellor Kumar Molugaram and senior leaders, he unveiled the government order to accord administrative sanction of ₹1,000 crore for infrastructure development in the university.

Mr. Reddy, in his passionate address, said the government’s focus was to uplift the poor and disadvantaged sections, and to provide world-class amenities. He said commitment to education, social justice and opportunity was his government’s priority, and encouraged students, especially first-generation learners, to dedicate themselves to gaining knowledge.

He told them that English is only a tool of communication and should not be confused with the essence of knowledge, citing the examples of China, Japan, and Germany.

Recalling the stalwart alumni of the institution who went on to shape the society, such as P.V. Narasimha Rao, S. Jaipal Reddy, George Reddy and Gaddar, and invoking the university’s longstanding tradition, he advised students to steer clear of party politics, focus on studies and aim to become professionals who could lead Telangana.

Architectural consultants ARCOP, MA Architects, and SKIL and Associates presented the proposed detailed blueprints at the event. The master plan includes state-of-the-art facilities such as a new academic block, Research and Development block, new hostels for men and women, a multi-purpose sports center, an integrated library, health centre, bio-diversity park, convention centre, and an expansive road network with cycle tracks and pedestrian walkways.

Mr. Reddy also unveiled a QR scan code for students, faculty and the public to submit their feedback on the university’s design transformation. The feedback portal, accessible by mobile number authentication, is open until December 20.
