Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph has said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s new welfare announcements are meant to hoodwink the public. The government has imposed tax burden on people on all fronts, he said.

“This is part of the election strategy. If the government has any sincerity towards people, the promises in the manifesto should have been implemented during its initial days. This is a government that has broken promises, deceived, insulted, and ignored people,” Mr. Joseph said here on Thursday.

He alleged that the government did not consider the demands of ASHA workers. The increase in monthly honorarium was only ₹1,000. This comes at a time when the government has raised the salaries of Public Service Commission members and government lawyers by lakhs, he said.

Despite the Opposition raising issues faced by people following excessive tax burden, the government chose not to address them. It is the government’s wrong ecocomic policies that led to the rise in prices of essential commodities, Mr. Joseph said.
