Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Central government to give clearances for construction of 12-lane greenfield highway between the upcoming Bharat Future City and Machilipatnam port via Amaravati.

The Chief Minister who called on Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday reminded him that the A.P. Reorganization Act has provision for construction of a highway connecting the capitals of the two Telugu State’s Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Since Telangana was landlocked State without a port, construction of a greenfield highway would enable shipment of Telangana products through Machilipatnam port.

Of the total stretch of around 330-km of the proposed highway, 118-km would be in Telangana.

Responding positively to the Chief Minister’s request, Mr. Gadkari assured that the Centre would accordingly sanction to works under Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) with an estimated ₹858 crore within a week. A delegation of MoRTH officials would be sent to Telangana soon to hold discussions on connectivity between the Future City and Machilipatnam port.

The Minister said a meeting of senior officials of the Ministry and NHAI would be convened on September 22 in Hyderabad to review the project.
