Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the Government Pentland Multi-Speciality Hospital, located within the Vellore Corporation limits on Wednesday, bringing relief to thousands of residents.
Mr. Stalin was accompanied by Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan, Minister for Public Works and Highways E.V. Velu, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma. Subramanian and Minister for Handlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi, Collector V.R. Subbulaxmi and Vellore MP D.M. Kathir Anand.
The Chief Minister visited the maternity ward, out-patient (OP) unit and visitors waiting area in the new hospital and also interacted with hospital authorities on various facilities available at the premises.
Health officials said that the ₹197.81 crore facility is a seven-storey building with 560 beds for in-patients. Earlier, the hospital was functioning with only 125 beds. The upgraded hospital has atleast ten super specialties, including cardiology, neurology, nephrology and obstetrics and gynaecology. It also has ten surgical theatres with separate departments for plastic surgery. Separate wards for emergency and accident related cases, cancer treatment, sedation and x-ray rooms will also form a part of the new facility.
The Chief Minister also virtually inaugurated seven Primary Health Care (PHC) centres including Sekkadu (near Katpadi), Tiruvalam, Ozur, Ponnai, Odugathur and Thorapadi and two sub-health centres at Pernambut and Anaicut blocks in the district. Each PHC, built at a cost of ₹1.2 crore, covers around 50,000 residents in the area.
Earlier, Mr. Stalin arrived at Katpadi railway station around 12.30 p.m. On his way to Pentland hospital, around 10 kms away from the railway station, Mr. Stalin was greeted by DMK cadre, people including women, children and senior citizens, who flanked on both sides of Katpadi Main Road.
The DMK president got down from the van at a few spots, including Green Circle, a roundabout on Chennai-Bengaluru Highway, where he interacted with the public and posed for photographs with children.
