Panaji: Grievances over relocating the Ribandar post office to Old Goa have prompted chief minister Pramod Sawant to direct officials to explore the possibility of rent-free space at the old Goa Institute of Management (GIM) building at Ribandar, which houses a few govt departments.“The matter has already been taken up with the under secretary to the chief minister, requesting to re-examine the case afresh in connection with the allotment of accommodation for the functioning of the Ribandar post office and direct the concerned department to consider our request,” said an official at the office of the superintendent of the post office, Goa division. The official was responding to Utpal Parrikar’s letter requesting the shifting of the Ribandar post office back from Old Goa to Ribandar.
The postal department informed Parrikar that the CM’s office has considered the request for space allotment. The Ribandar post office has operated rent-free at the GIM premises since 1997. Following a 2014 roof collapse and the lack of repairs or alternative space, the facility was temporarily relocated to the Old Goa post office building.“All-out efforts are being made to search for alternate space for the functioning of the Ribandar post office in Ribandar,” said a postal department official.
