Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu handing over pension to a bedridden woman beneficiary at Rajampeta, where he addressed a Praja Vedika Sabha, in Annamayya district on Monday.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday charged the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) regime with destroying Andhra Pradesh’s future, misusing welfare schemes and misappropriating public funds, and stalling major irrigation projects.

Addressing a massive public meeting, Praja Vedika Sabha, at Boiyanapalli village of Rajampeta mandal of Annamayya district, the Chief Minister reiterated that his mission was to rebuild the State with prosperity, happiness, reforms, and welfare, and to transform the drought-hit Rayalaseema into a “Ratanala Seema” (Land of Gems).

“With reforms in irrigation, investments, and welfare schemes, we will rebuild Andhra Pradesh into a Ramarajya. With people’s support, I can even move mountains if necessary,” the Chief Minister said.

Irrigation

Mr. Naidu announced that irrigation has always remained at the core of his vision for Rayalaseema. “The late N.T. Rama Rao showed the way to bring water to Rayalaseema, and we are now following it. The NDA government will not allow this land to continuously suffer from drought. The Krishna waters have already reached Kuppam, and I will bring them to Rajampet and Railway Kodur as well shortly. I will not rest till rivers from the Vamsadhara to the Godavari, Krishna, and Penna are linked before the Ganga-Kaveri rivers get linked. Rayalaseema will never again be a parched land,” Naidu said amidst thunderous applause.

Sharply attacking the YSRCP, the Chief Minister accused the previous government of dragging Rayalaseema back into faction violence. “They made blood flow in Rayalaseema with faction politics. But we are committed to making water flow in the region,” he said.

Mr. Naidu maintained that the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP victory in 2024 brought back democracy in the State. “It put an end to people’s fears and the terror regime of the YSRCP. People can now question MLAs, MPs, and speak freely.”

The Chief Minister flayed the Jagan Mohan Reddy regime for “inflicting irreparable damage on the State’s irrigation network”. “They stalled the Polavaram, blocked Amaravati, turned roads into ditches, and even destroyed the Annamayya dam (in Rajampeta). We will not only reconstruct the Annamayya project, but also complete all the pending irrigation schemes. The YSRCP feasted on destruction, cheated the public by making ₹10 lakh crore debts in the name of welfare. But we believe in creating wealth and ensuring welfare,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Naidu said: “When I strived for the Hi-Tec City, they mocked at me. Now, it’s a grand reality that IT has brought lakhs of jobs to the Telugu youth globally. They laughed at the welfare-linked reforms, but we salvaged lakhs of families from poverty. Between 2019 and 2024, the YSRCP pushed Andhra Pradesh back by several decades. They reigned through fear, violence, and fake dramas like ‘Goddali Potu’, ‘Kodi Kathi’, ‘Gulakarayi’, door delivery of Dalit driver’s body, and attacks on farmers.”

Welfare agenda

Reiterating the resolve to further strengthen the NDA’s welfare schemes, Mr. Naidu recalled that N.T. Rama Rao introduced social pensions in 1983 with ₹30, and this was increased to ₹4,000 and ₹15,000 for the specially abled under the NDA rule. “Irony is that YSRCP handed pensions to ‘able-bodied party workers,’ making the scheme a political bribe, but denied the benefits to the genuine and eligible people,” the Chief Minister said, adding that “pensions are not doles, but our government’s responsibility.”

The Chief Minister threw a “challenge” to the YSRCP, daring the leadership to face him in the Assembly. “I am ready to debate development versus destruction, key issues of Amaravati, Pulivendula, Ontimitta bypolls, and even Viveka’s murder. Let me answer every question. Are you (YSRCP) ready?” an elated Naidu questioned.
