Bhubaneswar: The groundbreaking ceremony of SiCSem’s semiconductor fabrication unit will be held at Info Valley here on Saturday in the presence of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union electronics and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.The Union Cabinet on Aug 12 approved two major semiconductor manufacturing units worth Rs 4,009 crore for Odisha. Both projects are being set up at Info Valley. The two units will be built by SiCSem and 3D Glass. They are expected to generate thousands of high-skilled jobs, catalyse electronics manufacturing and help place Odisha on the global semiconductor map, said official sources.SiCSem will set up the plant to manufacture silicon carbide (SiC) devices, known for their efficiency in high-power applications, with an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and 96 million packaged units.Vaishnaw will also attend the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the railway ministry and the state govt, which aims to further enhance railway infrastructure and improve connectivity, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources on Friday.Sources said the MoU will be signed for further development of Bhubaneswar railway station. Vaishnaw, who holds the railway portfolio, will also visit Bhubaneswar station to review ongoing modernisation works under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme.
