CMC launches specialised team for patients affected with blood clot

The Christian Medical College (CMC) has launched Acute Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (APERT) in its new campus in Ranipet, focusing on risk factors, prevention, and early recognition of thrombosis. 

According to a press release, the team was started to mark World Thrombosis Day, observed annually on October 13, and a global awareness campaign initiated by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) in 2014.

The APERT is an innovative, multidisciplinary initiative designed to optimise the swift recognition, evaluation, and management of patients with acute pulmonary embolism. It brings together a dedicated multidisciplinary team of specialists from diverse departments to ensure evidence-based, high-quality, and patient-centred care.

Some of the salient features of the team includes a round the clock rapid-response activation, real-time multidisciplinary consultations, access to advanced imaging and interventional therapies, standardised treatment pathways for risk-stratified pulmonary embolism management.

It is said that one in four people worldwide die from conditions related to thrombosis (blood clotting), many of which are preventable through timely awareness and education, the release said.
