CME held on diabetes-related bone health at Kurnool Medical College

To commemorate World Diabetes Day and create awareness on diabetes-related bone health, the Department of Endocrinology, Government General Hospital, Kurnool, conducted a CME on ‘Bone Health in Diabetics’ in Kurnool Medical College on Monday (November 10).

The event was attended by Principal of the Kurnool Medical College K. Chitti Narasamma, Superintendent of GGH Kurnool K. Venkateswarlu and former Superintendent of the GGH Kurnool K.S. Thirumalachari.

Guest speaker — Additional Professor and Head Department of Endocrinology in NIMS Hyderabad Beatrice Annie — highlighted the neglected aspect of bone disease in diabetes, emphasizing the importance of Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing and early identification of skeletal complications.

Head of the Department P. Sreenivasulu underscored that a DEXA scan facility is now available at GGH Kurnool, facilitating early detection and management of osteoporosis and diabetic bone disorders. Dr. K. Venkateswarlu, an orthopedic surgeon, spoke on the orthopedic implications of diabetes on bone strength and fracture risk, stressing the need for a collaborative approach between endocrinologists and orthopedic specialists.

Faculty, postgraduate Residents, and nursing students actively participated in the CME, reaffirming the department’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic diabetes care.
