Coimbatore city police short of 240 personnel

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police are seeking to recruit 240 personnel to fill existing vacancies.City police commissioner A Saravana Sundar said the total sanctioned police strength for the city is around 2,700.

“We are short of 240 personnel from the actual strength,” he said.

Recently, the city police added 122 personnel to the city armed reserve police, but 135 personnel were transferred out. “The shortage of personnel is always an issue in the city. To fill these vacancies, we have sent a proposal to the state govt seeking 240 more police personnel to maintain law and order in the city and to ensure crime prevention," he said.He said actual strength of the city police was reached, the workload of each cop would be reduced. “Despite the shortage of personnel, we are continuing all regular efforts to maintain law and order in the city and prevent crime. Once we get the full strength, we can regularise the weekly off for the police personnel. Since the cases and events are high in various stations in the city, personnel are forced to adjust their week offs to maintain law and order in the city,” he added.
