COIMBATORE: Two men, including a Coimbatore corporation worker, were arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday on charges of accepting a bribe to provide a new water connection to a house.Rajendran of Kemppatti Colony had applied for a water connection to his house. After an assistant commissioner granted permission, work was assigned to Mohan, a corporation worker at the Water Supply Office in Gandhi Park, and Eeswaran, a contract plumber.Mohan allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 from Rajendran to install the water pipe. Rajendran said he would pay the amount after the work was over. But the two pressured him to pay in advance.
Rajendran filed a complaint with the DVAC.Based on the complaint, DVAC officials arranged a trap and provided Rajendran with chemically treated currency notes. On Thursday, Rajendran met Mohan near Gandhi Park and handed over the currency notes. DVAC officials caught Mohan red-handed while receiving the cash. They arrested Mohan and Eeswaran.
