Coimbatore court sentences Nigerian national to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for drug trafficking

COIMBATORE: A special court in Coimbatore has sentenced a Nigerian national to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for drug trafficking.The case dates to July 2012 when, the Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai unit, intercepted three parcels at a courier office and discovered 1.195 kg of heroin and 200 gram of methaqualone, valued more than Rs 2 crore in the international market.

Further investigations led to the interception of Emmanuel Chukwunonso Samson, 40, a Nigerian national, who was residing illegally in Erode. During a search in his residence, authorities found four kg of ganja.Upon questioning him, it was revealed that Samson had arranged to send narcotic drugs abroad through courier services and was involved in international drug trafficking. NCB personnel arrested Samson in September 2012.The case was tried in the Special Court for the Essential Commodities (EC) Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. On Saturday, judge Rajalingam found Samson, 40, guilty and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh under the NDPS Act.
