Coimbatore district to get 459 new polling stations

COIMBATORE: A total of 950 polling stations in Coimbatore district have more than 1,200 voters each, prompting the creation of 459 new polling stations for the upcoming assembly elections, officials said.

District collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar held a consultation meeting on Thursday with representatives of recognised political parties to discuss the reorganisation of polling stations. As part of the special intensive revision of the electoral roll, the district election officer released the draft list of 3,117 existing polling stations in the presence of political party representatives. According to officials, the plan includes creating 459 new polling stations, reorganising 425, relocating 37, carrying out building changes at 47 and renaming five polling stations.
