Coimbatore rural police arrest four for murdering friend during drunken brawl in Chennai

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore rural police arrested four men on Saturday for murdering their friend in Chennai and dumping the body at Malumichampatti near here.The arrested men have been identified as I Newton, 28, M Benitto, 27, D Balamurugan, 45, and P Murugaperumal, 24.

All hail from Tirunelveli.On Thursday, Murugaperumal and Balamurugan surrendered before the Chettipalayam police in Coimbatore district confessing to murdering their friend in a drunken brawl.Police investigations revealed that Murugaperumal, Benitto and Newton had murdered their friend Jayaraman in Chennai two months ago in a drunken brawl. When the trio found it difficult to dispose of the body in Chennai, they sought Balamurugan’s help, who was staying with his father near Malumichampatti in Coimbatore district.

As per Balamurugan’s plan, Murugaperumal transported the body in a car to Coimbatore district and disposed of it in a 40-foot-deep well near Malumichampatti.A police official stated that following the duo's statement, they retrieved the skeletal remains of Jayaraman from a well near Malumichampatti on Friday. During the interrogation, it was found that more people might be involved in the murder. During questioning, the duo stated that Benitto and Newton, residing in Chennai, were also involved in the murder.A team of police officers went to Chennai and arrested Benitto and Newton. The police registered a murder case against Murugaperumal, Balamurugan, Benitto and Newton. They were remanded in judicial custody.
