Collector orders total removal of prosopis trees from Kodikulam tank

Madurai: Retired Justice Selvam along with Madurai district collector P Akash inspected S Kodikulam tank on Thursday to ascertain the extent of invasive prosopis trees grown there and the area already cleared of it.The collector instructed officials to take steps to completely remove prosopis trees, protect and maintain the tank, and clear encroachments in the tank area. Corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar and other govt officials were present.The collector held the Fasli 1435 revenue settlement meeting in Madurai West taluk under the revenue administration and disaster management department. He asked officials to take prompt action on petitions received from the public, and to expedite various revenue-related work.The collector paid floral tribute to the statue of Thiyagaseelar Kakkan at the memorial hall in Thumbaipatti, Melur taluk, on the occasion of freedom fighter’s 118th birth anniversary. He viewed the rare historical photographs displayed at the memorial hall, which highlighted the life history, public service, political work, and social contributions of Kakkan.
