A recent Maharashtra Premier League Qualifier 1 game between Kolhapur Tuskers and Raigad Royals saw a series of comical goof-ups that would left everyone laughing, including in the dugout and the commentary box. A video going viral from the Maharashtra Premier League game shows Raigad Royals’ Vicky Ostwal punching a ball from Atman Pore in the cover region and then haring down the pitch to attempt taking two runs.

While Ostwal and his batting partner Siddhesh Veer are fixated on the ball in the deep, they ran straight into each other with such force that they both hit the ground in pain. This was the first goof-off in the sequence of events in a short span of time. The throw came in from the fielder in the deep to the wicketkeeper. Then a farcical series of events played out. First, the wicketkeeper, in a moment of brain fade, opted to throw the ball underarm to the bowler at the other end. This, despite the fact that he was standing in front of the batter’s stumps and needed just to turn around and whip the bails off. At this point, both batters were still on the floor recovering from the blow, right in the middle of the 22-yard strip.

The throw from the keeper was not something the bowler Pore was expecting. So he was not able to collect cleanly, and by the time he had picked up the ball, Siddhesh Veer had slid into the crease with a baseball-slide while his bat was still in the middle of the pitch.

Now, Pore was aghast at what he had done, so he did not have the presence of mind to throw the ball back to the keeper. That’s when Rahul Tripathi of Kolhapur ran to the bowler’s stumps and picked up the ball. But Tripathi noticed that the wicketkeeper by this stage had walked down the pitch, so he was not in position to effect a run out. So the fielder opted to Usain Bolt his way to a run out. But by this point, Ostwal had stirred into action and was on his feet. He too started to run to the striker’s end to prevent being run out. Now, came the final act of the sequence: Rahul Tripathi threw the ball with full force while also sprinting full pelt at the stumps. This made him miss all three stumps altogether and the ball speed to the boundary ropes as the Raigad Royals earned four overthrow runs.
