Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday (August 23, 2025) urged traders to focus on ‘Made in India’ and reject foreign goods.

The Minister, however, did not make any direct reference to the issue of the United State imposed tariffs or the pause in the trade negotiations between the two countries.

Speaking at the Entrepreneurship and Traders Leadership summit on ‘One Nation, One Election’, Mr. Goyal urged the traders to carry the message of Aatmanirbhar Bharat [self-reliant India] to the youth.

“We should all stand with Prime Minister Narendra Modi shoulder to shoulder, whether it is about making the election process clean or carrying the message of Aatmanirbhar Bharat to the youth or as traders, by selling Made in India goods and rejecting foreign goods. Our families should reject them,” Mr. Goyal said.

“All of us should resolve to make a new India, to build a viksit [developed] and samruddh [prosperous] Bharat in Amrit Kaal,” the Minister added.

Speaking about the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Mr. Goyal alleged that the Opposition parties are against the exercise since they want migrant workers, who may not have deleted their names from the voter list of the State despite enrolling in another State, to vote a second time in the polls.

The Minister said the Election Commission of India’s exercise is to clean up the electoral rolls of infiltrators besides duplicate and deceased voters. He also thanked the poll panel for its effort to “clean up” the voters’ list.

“The infiltrators know that the Narendra Modi government and [Home Minister] Amit Shah won’t allow infiltrators to stay in the country. They will be uprooted,” he said.
