The relatives of a 49-year-old woman, who died at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam, have lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that her death was due to medical negligence. The deceased was Shalini Ambujakshan, a native of Kothanallur.
According to Ambujakshan, husband of the deceased woman, Shalini arrived at the gynaecology department at 6 a.m. on Monday for a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure. He added that Shalini did not have any other health issues, such as hypertension or diabetes. Accompanied by her daughter, Shalini travelled to the hospital by auto-rickshaw. After receiving medication, she felt unwell and suddenly became unconscious. She was subsequently shifted to a ventilator and was declared dead at 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Gandhi Nagar police have registered a case following the complaint from her relatives. Meanwhile, hospital authorities have denied any medical error in her treatment.
