Congress Lok Sabha M.P. Sasikanth Senthil’s indefinite fast against the Union Government’s refusal to disburse Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan funds for Tamil Nadu entered day two.
Mr. Sasikanth began his protest on Friday in his constituency.
The protest drew support from various political quarters as Congress cadre and other alliance party leaders reached out to him and offered support including senior Congress leader and TNCC vice president, A. Gopanna and VCK’s deputy general secretary, Vanni Arasu.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also reportedly offered his support via a phone call.
Mr. Sasikanth said that the Union government must not stop funds meant for children’s education. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai appealed to him to end his indefinite hunger protest as it may take the focus away from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s nation wide ‘Vote Chori’ campaign.
Senior Tamil Nadu Congress leaders have also reportedly urged Mr. Sasikanth to give up his protest on the grounds that this protest could exacerbate his health issues.
