The Congress party has criticised the Puducherry police for not acting on a complaint given by the party against BJP workers for insulting the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, during a protest last week.
Addressing a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Committee office on Saturday evening, former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the Congress party had preferred a complaint against BJP workers for speaking ill about Mr. Gandhi and showing disrespect to his photograph.
“We gave digital and photographic evidence to prove the disrespect shown to Mr. Gandhi. No arrest has been made so far. We will wait till September 12 for the police to act, failing which the Congress workers will lay a siege to the DGP office and file a petition in High Court seeking a direction to the police for registering a case,” he said.
He also expressed displeasure over the recent meetings held by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan with BJP functionaries.
In the last one week, BJP president V. P. Ramalingam had met the Lt. Governor several times. The BJP president introduced party functionaries to Mr. Kailashnathan, he alleged.
“Lt. Governors usually do not interfere in the functioning of political parties. He should desist from political activism. The Lt. Governor should concentrate on the development of the Union Territory,” the former Chief Minister said.
