Conor McGregor is talking like a man who finally got what he wanted. After years of delays, injuries, public uncertainty, and stalled comeback plans, the former two-division UFC champion says his long-awaited return is no longer hanging in limbo.

McGregor is officially set to face Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and this time, the Irish star sounds fully invested in both the fight and the business behind it.McGregor’s relationship with the UFC has often shifted between admiration and frustration, especially as the promotion moved into a new media era with Paramount+. But ahead of his comeback, McGregor made it clear that the financial side of negotiations finally landed where he wanted it to.

Conor McGregor drops major contract update ahead of UFC comeback

Conor McGregor opened up during an appearance on Mac Energy, where he revealed just how satisfied he is with the deal that brought him back to the Octagon after nearly five years away."It's like a musical – music to my ears, it is. I'm out so long, five years,” McGregor said. “My body's fresh. My mind is sharp. I'm ready to come back. I've got a great opponent. I've got a great deal off the UFC. I'm very, very happy, They honored me, finally."

McGregor, however, did not explain the contract.

McGregor defeated Holloway by unanimous decision back in August 2013, though the rematch comes under very different circumstances. Their first meeting happened at Featherweight. UFC 329 will take place at welterweight, where McGregor believes his evolution as a fighter will show."July 11, and the opponent is a man I've beaten before in Max Holloway. He's an established fighter, an accomplished fighter, former UFC world champion, multiple time.

So this is a quality opponent, and our last bout was martial arts mastery by yours truly, so I plan on doing it again."

The structure of McGregor’s current UFC deal has become one of the biggest talking points surrounding his return. According to veteran MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, McGregor did not sign a contract extension despite UFC interest in locking him into a longer agreement.Instead, this Holloway fight is reportedly one of the final two bouts remaining on his current deal.

That could create enormous leverage if McGregor returns successfully and proves he can still headline major events in the streaming era.“With the streaming world, with Netflix, with Amazon, all these people paying big top dollar for sport, could you imagine a Conor McGregor fight on the open market? What do you think Netflix would pay for that? They would pay a lot of money," Helwani said.

What did Conor McGregor say about his upcoming fight?

McGregor’s confidence has never disappeared, even after the gruesome leg injury he suffered against Dustin Poirier in 2021.

He admitted the recovery forced him to rethink how he prepares mentally for fights and worst-case scenarios inside the cage."Now as I've become a lot more experienced in the game, I actually work backward toward the perfect scenario," McGregor explained. He continued by describing how he now prepares for injuries and difficult moments before they happen, believing survival and adaptability are just as important as highlight-reel knockouts. For UFC fans, that mindset may be the most interesting part of all. The swagger is still there. So is the business instinct. But this version of McGregor also sounds more calculated than before.
