Former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at a function in B D College
Patna: Former Union minister and Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday emphasised that the Indian Constitution possesses the resilience to meet every national challenge and has played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s democracy over the past 75 years.Prasad was speaking at the inaugural Bhuvneshwari Dayal Memorial Lecture on the theme “India’s Constitutional Journey over the Past 75 Years” organised by the local B D College at the Secretariat’s Adhiveshan Bhawan. The event was presided over by the college’s principal, Ratna Amrit.Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said the Constitution’s greatest power lies in the fact that governance in India is always determined by the people’s mandate.
It empowers every Indian—regardless of religion, caste, language, or region—and ensures that not only govts but all constitutional bodies remain accountable to the people.Remembering the contributions of India’s founding leaders, he paid tributes to Dr Rajendra Prasad, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He highlighted that while India was once fragmented into more than 550 princely estates, Sardar Patel united them into a single nation, embodying the Constitution’s spirit of unity.
The lecture was attended by Bihar University Service Commission chairman Prof Girish Kumar Chaudhary; Pataliputra University vice-chancellor Prof Upendra Prasad Singh; Magadh University VC Prof Shashi Pratap Shahi, along with other dignitaries, faculty members, and students. In her address, Ratna highlighted the contributions of Bhuvneshwari Dayal, former Patna Mayor K N Sahay, and Prof Nirmal Kumar Srivastava in the establishment of the B D College.
She said that the construction of the new building of the college would be completed soon. The principal also said, necessary efforts for securing NAAC accreditation were already in progress. “The task of managing and running the college’s canteen would soon be handed over to the Jeevika Didis,” Ratna said, “I will transform challenges into opportunities.”
