The Public Works Department is looking forward to completing the construction of Collectorate Complex for Kallakurichi district ahead of scheduled time span.
Though the work was planned for completion in 18 months, the construction of the eight-storeyed building is expected to be over by October 30 this year, owing to the speedening of the construction activity, Minister for PWD, Highways and Minor Ports E.V. Velu said after taking stock of the progress made in the ₹139.41-crore project on Thursday.
Spread over 35.18 acres, the eight-storey collectorate complex will comprise at least 40 departments, including revenue, rural development, animal husbandry, agriculture, social welfare, labour, tourism, and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.
The ground floor of the complex will have public facilities, such as banks, post office, grievance redress hall, and ramps for the differently-abled.
The complex will also have separate cabins for officials of various departments, conference room equipped with LED lights, and CCTV cameras. The Collector’s office will be on the third floor.
Mr. Velu said that about 85% of the work had been completed. The project is progressing at a fast pace, and steps are under way to finish the work by October 30. The Collectorate will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister soon after completion of the work, he added.
District Collector M.S. Prasanth and senior officials were present.
