Anantapur police have taken into custody a construction worker in connection with the alleged murder of a 20-year-old girl in Kuderu.
The girl had gone missing a few days earlier and was found murdered behind a private educational institution within the Kuderu police limits on Saturday.
According to police, the girl had gone out with the accused a day before her death. It is suspected that the construction worker had attacked her with an empty beer bottle, striking her on the head, which led to her death.
The incident sparked public outrage, with civil organisations staging a dharna in the city demanding justice for the girl’s family. and stronger safety measures for women.
Anantapur MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad extended financial assistance of ₹1 lakh to the girl’s family. Party leaders handed over the assistance to the family. The MLA consoled the family members over telephone. He assured the family that the State government will support them and take steps to punish the culprits.
Meanwhile, former YSRC MLA Anantha Venkatarami Reddy lashed out at the government for ignoring the safety of women and diverting attention by targeting and arresting media personnel.
