With surplus water being released from the Mettur dam into the Cauvery River, the Cuddalore district administration has cautioned people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places.
Cuddalore Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar said the Mettur dam had reached its full capacity of 120 feet and the discharge was expected to be stepped from 50,000 to 75,000 cusecs anytime. He asked people living in low-lying areas, particularly in the tail-end Delta region, to move to safer ground and cautioned them against bathing or taking their cattle to the river.
A 24-hour control room has been established at the Cuddalore Collectorate to handle rain-related complaints. Residents can call the control room at 1077 or 04142 - 220700 to report any rain-related damage.
