KOLKATA: A comparatively cool summer has helped the state-run discom, West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL), save between Rs 600 crore and Rs 700 crore through the season this year compared to the past three years.According to an official, the discom saved Rs 150 crore-200 crore in power purchases, having bought 500-700MW on average every day this summer.“For the past three years, the average load in summer hovered between 9,000 MW and 10,500 MW in WBSEDCL area. This year it came down to 8,000-8,500 MW, which brought much-needed relief for WBSEDCL,” an official said.Last fiscal, the discom had spent Rs 30,677.8 crore on power purchase and transmission, making up 80% of its total expenses.
