Rajinikanth starrer crosses Rs 275 crore mark; holds strong in third weekend

Rajinikanth's gangster drama pan-India entertainer 'Coolie' has been performing excellently at the box office, despite entering its third weekend. The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, registered an impressive Rs 2.65 crore on its 17th day, i.e, Saturday, pushing its total earnings to a staggering Rs 275.85 crore.According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, 'Coolie' collected Rs 41.85 crore in its second week across all languages, with Tamil contributing at Rs 24.2 crore, followed by Hindi at Rs 9.4 crore, Telugu at Rs 7.55 crore, and Kannada at Rs 70 lakh. However, the film witnessed a sharp drop of 81.78% compared to its first week, a dip that is not unusual for big-ticket releases. On its third Friday (day 16), 'Coolie' minted Rs 1.7 crore, while on day 17, that is Saturday, it saw a strong jump, recording Rs 2.65 crore in early estimates.

The rise in footfalls indicates that the Rajinikanth starrer continues to enjoy solid support from his massive fan base.

Theatre occupancy

Occupancy trends also reveal interesting insights into the film’s performance across languages. In Tamil Nadu, 'Coolie' posted a healthy overall occupancy of 23.68% on Saturday, with night shows seeing the best turnout at 31.17%. In the Hindi belt, the film titled Coolie: The Powerhouse clocked a 14.31% occupancy, with a gradual rise from morning 6.18% to night shows 24.42%.

Meanwhile, in Telugu states, the film held steady with an overall occupancy of 16.83%, peaking during night screenings at 19.10%.

Cast of the film

Headlined by superstar Rajinikanth, 'Coolie' has a star-studded ensemble including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Bollywood icon Aamir Khan in a pivotal role. While the presence of big names has added to its appeal, it is Thalaivar's charisma that has largely powered the box office numbers.

'Coolie' reception

However, despite its commercial success, 'Coolie' has drawn mixed responses from audiences. Many viewers on social media pointed out loopholes in the screenplay, with some calling it "the weakest film" of Lokesh Kanagaraj's otherwise celebrated career. Others, though, insist that the film's action sequences and Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life persona make it a mass entertainer worth watching on the big screen.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
