 Rajinikanth starrer slows down, likely to cross Rs.500 crore globally soon

Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ stormed into theatres last week, with its release day turning into a festival for fans. Despite receiving an A certificate from the censor board initially, the makers approached the Madras High Court for a U/A re-certification.

The court’s response is expected soon, and if approved, the U/A certificate from Friday (Aug 22) could further boost footfall, especially among family audiences.

‘Coolie’ grosses Rs 400 crore worldwide in 4 days

On its opening day, ‘Coolie’ raked in a massive Rs.65 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk. The collections included ₹44.5 crore from Tamil Nadu, ₹15.5 crore from Telugu states, and Rs.4.5 crore from the Hindi belt. Though the earnings dipped slightly on day two, the film still collected Rs.54.75 crore.

Over the weekend, it picked up pace again, registering more than Rs.74.75 crore across Saturday and Sunday.Within four days, the makers officially confirmed that ‘Coolie’ had crossed the ₹400 crore global mark, cementing its blockbuster status.

Mid-week slowdown

As expected, the film’s collections dipped during weekdays. On Monday, it netted Rs.12 crore, followed by Rs.9.51 crore on Tuesday. By Wednesday (day seven), ‘Coolie’ managed a net collection of around Rs.2.3 crore in India, taking its total domestic collection to Rs.219 crore in seven days.

Overseas figures are expected to be released soon, which will push the global tally even higher.

Star-studded cast and Anirudh’s music keep momentum

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, ‘Coolie’ boasts an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Aamir Khan, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, and Rachita Ram, alongside Rajinikanth. With Anirudh Ravichander’s chart-topping music fueling the hype, trade analysts expect the film to breach the ₹500 crore global milestone by the end of its second weekend.
