Tuticorin: A head constable attached to the Arumuganeri police station was placed under suspension following allegations that he sent obscene messages to a woman who had approached the station seeking help. The officer, identified as Agni Muthu, had reportedly obtained the woman’s contact details from a complaint petition she filed regarding a family dispute.According to police sources, the woman, a resident of Kayalpattinam, visited the station recently to lodge a formal complaint. Instead of addressing the grievance, the head constable allegedly used her phone number to initiate private conversations on WhatsApp, where he sent offensive and obscene messages. The incident came to light after audio recordings of the officer's vulgar conversations went viral on various social media platforms, sparking public outrage. Taking serious note of the gross misconduct, Tuticorin district superintendent of police, Abhishek Gupta, issued orders suspending the officer from service pending further investigation.“No complaint was received but since with the evidence we had of the officer engaging in inappropriate messaging on phone, we have suspended him,” a senior police official told TOI.This incident marks the second such case at the Arumuganeri station within the past month, following the suspension of Inspector S N Thileeban, who was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a female colleague.
