Ketan Agarwal's family has sought a fast-track trial and stringent punishment, alleging the accused could have called off the marriage instead of plotting his death.

The family of Ketan Agarwal, the 26-year-old man murdered at Lohagad Fort near Pune, has demanded a fast-track trial and the harshest punishment for the accused, saying the case should serve as a warning to society and that similar tragedies could befall other families if swift justice is not delivered.
Speaking after the arrests of Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary, Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, described his son as the backbone of the family and said the loss had left them shattered.
“He was my support system. Ketan had completed his MBA in Boston in the United States and then joined me in my business. He has been killed, and it is dangerous for such people to remain in society. This could happen to any family tomorrow, and parents would be left helpless," he said.
“My only appeal to the government is that this case be fast-tracked at any cost. The accused should be punished as quickly as possible. They deserve the strictest possible punishment to send a clear message," the grieving father said.
Ketan’s father said the family would have accepted a decision to cancel the marriage had Siya Goyal informed them she did not wish to proceed with it.
According to him, the couple got engaged in February and were scheduled to marry in November. He said there was never any pressure from their side to go ahead with the wedding.
“If she did not want to get married, she could have simply refused. We would have cancelled the wedding immediately. If she were in a relationship with someone else, she could have told her family or shown us a photograph of the person. Even then, we would have called off the marriage. They could have chosen another path, but instead they took this drastic step," he said.
The grieving father said he was unable to understand the alleged motive behind the crime and questioned what kind of mindset could lead to the killing of a young man.
“What kind of mentality is this? A 26-year-old boy has lost his life. Society needs to take note of such a cruel mindset and ask where such thinking comes from," he said.
MOTHER ALLEGES BETRAYAL, DEMANDS DEATH PENALTY
Ketan’s mother alleged that Siya Goyal had deceived the family despite sharing a close relationship with them before the incident.
“My son is no more. Siya and her boyfriend are responsible for his death. She lied to me and betrayed all of us," she said.
She recalled that Siya frequently visited their home and accompanied the family on outings, shopping trips, dinners and birthday celebrations, giving them no reason to suspect anything.
“There was nothing suspicious. We never doubted her. We treated her like family," she said.
Demanding the harshest punishment, Ketan’s mother said she wanted the death penalty for those responsible for her son’s death.
“We are shattered. We have not slept since the incident occurred," she added.
GRANDFATHER, RELATIVES SEEK ACCOUNTABILITY
Ketan’s grandfather said the two families had known each other for around 35 years and had maintained cordial relations over the decades.
He alleged that Siya’s family concealed her relationship with another man and continued with the marriage arrangement despite being aware of it.
“We knew the family well and trusted them. Our son is gone today. I request the government to take prompt action and ensure the strongest punishment for those responsible," he said.
Another family member alleged that if Siya’s family knew about her relationship, the marriage proposal should not have been pursued.
“If the family was aware of the affair, they should not have proceeded with the marriage. Our son is gone because of all this. The family must take responsibility for what happened," the relative said.
POLICE SAY CASE WAS SOLVED AFTER SUSPICIONS EMERGED
According to Pune Rural Police SP Sandeep Singh Gill, Siya Goyal initially informed authorities that Ketan Agarwal had accidentally slipped and fallen from Lohagad Fort on June 18.
However, statements from family members and friends, witness accounts, and technical evidence raised doubts about the accident theory.
Police later alleged that Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary had conspired to kill Ketan and pushed him from the fort.
Both accused have been arrested and were remanded to police custody until June 29 by a Pune court. The investigation is ongoing.
As the case progresses, Ketan Agarwal’s family says its primary demand remains swift justice and the strictest punishment for those accused, arguing that the outcome of the case will send an important message to society and help prevent similar crimes in the future.
