Mathieu Olivier was the star for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, where the team held on for a tight 5–4 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
The Blue Jackets scored early and built a strong lead, and Mathieu Olivier set the tone with two goals. His scoring helped Columbus control most of the game before Edmonton made a strong final push.With 12 minutes left in the third period, the Blue Jackets were ahead 5–2, but the Oilers started to rally. Goalie Jet Greaves stopped 25 of the 29 shots he faced and kept Edmonton from tying the game in the final minutes. This win also marked the fifth straight time Columbus has beaten Edmonton at home.

Mathieu Olivier, Charlie Coyle, and Cole Sillinger played a huge role all night. Their line put up seven points, scored three goals, and finished the game plus-6. Charlie Coyle got his third goal of the season and added two assists, while Cole Sillinger earned his fifth assist. Head coach Dean Evason said after the game, “We almost let it go. They have special players, and we tried to take away those chances, but they kept coming.”
He praised the third line and said their fast play helped Columbus stay ahead.
Rookie defenseman Denton Mateychuk also scored his fourth goal of the season, giving Columbus more breathing room early in the game. The offense kept coming from everywhere, and the Blue Jackets moved the puck well until Edmonton’s late push made the final minutes tense.Adam Fantilli kept his hot streak alive by scoring his fifth goal of the season.
His goal stretched his point streak to four straight games and his goal streak to three games.
