Communist Party of India (CPI) district secretary K.G. Sivanandan has demanded a judicial investigation into alleged irregularities in the voters’ list during the Thrissur Lok Sabha elections. He accused the State Election Commission (SEC) of brushing aside serious complaints about voters’ list manipulation during the polls.

Speaking at a meet the press programme organised by the Thrissur Press Club on Friday, Mr. Sivanandan said the issue cannot be ignored in light of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent revelations about large-scale electoral fraud in other States. “The shadow of doubt now extends to Thrissur as well,” he said.

According to him, complaints that voters were “packed into” the constituency were raised during the election itself. “We had submitted formal complaints, but the Election Commission treated them lightly. No follow-up action was taken,” Mr. Sivanandan alleged.

Echoing the concerns voiced earlier by CPI leader and former Minister V.S. Sunilkumar, who was the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Thrissur, Mr. Sivanandan said scrutiny should not be limited to the States Mr. Gandhi mentioned. “These matters must also be thoroughly examined in Kerala, especially in Thrissur, where the LDF suffered defeat under questionable circumstances.”
