CPI Leader Shot Dead During Morning Walk In Hyderabad, Attackers Threw Chilli Powder In Eyes

CPI leader Chandu Rathod was shot dead by unidentified assailants during his morning walk at Shalivahana Nagar Park in Hyderabad.

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Chandu Rathod was shot dead on Tuesday while he was taking his usual morning walk at Shalivahana Nagar Park in Malakpet, Hyderabad.

Around 7:30 am, three to four unidentified attackers arrived in a white Swift car and threw chili powder into Rathod’s eyes before opening fire at him. Despite 20 people being nearby at the park, the assailants managed to run and escape.

According to Hindustan Times, Rathod’s wife stated that he had a long-standing feud with a man named Rajesh, who is a member of CPI (ML) from Devaruppala.

Rathod was 47 years old and was originally from Achampet in Kurnool district but had been living with his family in Chaitanyapuri. The family believed that this rivalry may have played a role in the attack.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the case and will also probe the possibility of the murder being connected to a land dispute.

Shortly after the shooting, senior police officials and a forensic team arrived at the scene to start their investigation. CCTV footage from the area is also being scanned to identify the murderer and determine if Rathod had any other enemies.

The Malakpet police have registered a case under relevant sections and are actively working to bring those responsible to justice. The shocking daylight attack has left the community shaken, raising concerns about safety in the area.
