Members of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration in the city on Saturday, demanding immediate repair of roads, underground drainage (UGD) network, and other civic infrastructure damaged due to recent rains.
Led by Jagadish Surya and N. Subramanya, the protesters said that manholes were overflowing due to blockage, and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) was not attending to civic works on a priority basis.
The CPI (M) said most roads in the city, including Tyagaraja Road, Ramanuja Road, Chamaraja Double Road, multiple roads in Kuvempunagar, Saraswathipuram, Janata Nagar, Railway Underbridge, Vinayak Nagar, Ashoka Road, Agrahara, Udayagiri, N.R. Mohalla, etc., were in bad shape.
The MCC has failed to take up or complete the civic works, and rains add to chaos on streets making it difficult for both pedestrians and motorists, said the activists.
They drew attention to incomplete UGD works and said that as a result the manholes were overflowing on the streets.
They also raised questions on the quality of road asphalting and said that one spell of rain was enough to create potholes. Hence, the MCC was urged to take up civic works on a priority basis and ensure quality in execution.
