A letter purportedly issued by the banned CPI (Maoist) Telangana State Committee regarding “extension of ceasefire” appeared on social media on Monday.
The purported letter bearing the name of Jagan, official spokesperson of the outlawed organisation’s State committee, stated that the ceasefire is being extended by six months in tune with people’s aspirations.
“In April, May and June this year, all parties, mass organisations and civil society groups organised massive peaceful movements in Telangana for the continuation of the peaceful atmosphere. The State government also responded in accordance with people’s aspirations,” read the purported statement by Mr Jagan.
“Consequently, we have announced a six-month long ceasefire in May and abided by it since then. We are extending the ceasefire by another six months in line with the aspirations of people,” the brief statement added.
However, police are yet to confirm the veracity of the letter doing the rounds on social media.
