Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation party’s general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Friday (November 14, 2025) asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) how is there an increase in more than 3 lakh voters comparing the before and after data of Special Intensive Revision and the data shared by the ECI during the press conference.
“After the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar, the State had an electoral roll of 7.42 crore. The post-poll ECI press conference, however, puts the figure at 7,45,26,858. How is there an increase of more than 3,00,000 votes?” Mr. Bhattacharya asked.
In a post on X, Mr. Bhattacharya asked the ECI to explain how is there an increase in 3 lakh votes.
After SIR, Bihar had an electoral roll of 7.42 crore. The post-poll ECI press note puts the figure at 7,45,26,858! An increase of more than 3,00,000! Where did this 'extra 2 ab' come from? Will @ECISVEEP care to explain? @yadavtejashwi@RahulGandhi@cpimlliberation@cpimspeakpic.twitter.com/Y0K0gjPg2T
— Dipankar (@Dipankar_cpiml) November 14, 2025The final list of SIR pegged the total number of voters in Bihar at nearly 7.42 crore names, after realising the final list after the completion.
Following the completion of two phases of Bihar Assembly elections, the ECI in a press note said the total voters in Bihar were 7,45,26,858.
There has been a lot of backlash in the country over the SIR being conducted across the country.
