NEW DELHI: Three kanwariyas were arrested at Mirzapur railway station on Sunday for assaulting a CRPF jawan during a scuffle over train tickets, police said. The incident took place when the CRPF jawan was preparing to board the Brahmaputra Express for Manipur duty, while the kanwariyas were also trying to buy tickets for the same train to Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand. According to GRP Inspector Raghavendra Singh, the situation escalated into an altercation. “GRP jawans deployed at the station intervened and tried to control the situation. Additional force was called in to assist the CRPF jawan,” he said. The jawan was eventually facilitated to board the train, officials said. A case was registered against the kanwariyas under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and relevant provisions of the Railway Act. They were later released on bail, the GRP added.
