A CRPF personnel was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of espionage, officials said, adding that he has also been dismissed from service.

The arrested personnel was an ASI-level jawan. After the initial investigation by the CRPF, he was handed over to the NIA on May 21.

The jawan was sent to a 15-day custody.

According to sources in the CRPF, a close monitoring of social media activity by CRPF personnel, in coordination with Central agencies, was being done after initial suspicion. “The individual was found to have acted in violation of established norms and protocols," sources said.

The person has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further inquiry. Concurrently, the individual has been dismissed from service with effect from 21.05.2025, the officials said.

The development comes as a series of revelations regarding Pakistani spy networks in India. Several Indians were arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan. One such individual who was held was a YouTuber, Jyoti Malhotra, who had lakhs of subscribers.

She was arrested in Haryana this month. She had travelled to Pakistan a number of times.
