NEW DELHI: In the capital, each spell of rain portends a disturbing trend - deaths due to electrocution. Despite mounting fatalities, civic authorities remain unresponsive, as revealed by spot inspections conducted by TOI.

Many electric poles across the city, especially on and beneath flyovers, have open junction boxes and exposed wires. These pose a serious threat, turning lethal when rainwater comes into contact with live electrical components.

Pedestrians and commuters face heightened risks - a simple accidental touch can lead to electric shocks, severe burns, or even death. Loose connections and corroded wiring further increase the likelihood of sparks and electrocution. What's worse, these dangerous setups are found in high-traffic areas, making them a constant hazard during the monsoon season.Until civic agencies take swift and serious action, lives will remain at risk every time the skies open.
