Inspector General of Police (IGP-Bihar cadre) M. Sunil Kumar Naik appeared before an A.P. police team in Guntur on Thursday (March 5) in connection with the alleged custodial torture of former Narsapuram Member of Parliament K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju in 2021.
Mr. Sunil Kumar is currently serving as the Director of Bihar State Fire Services, and Mr. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju is the Deputy Speaker of the A.P. Legislative Assembly. The police team questioned the IGP regarding the case.
Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik had served as Deputy Inspector General in the Crime Investigation Department when he was on deputation to Andhra Pradesh during the tenure of the YSRCP government.
The Guntur police had booked former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and three IPS officers, including Mr. Sunil Kumar Naik, in connection with the case. Ten days ago, a police team went to Bihar to arrest Mr. Sunil kumar Naik from his residence in Patna.
However, a jurisdictional court rejected the transit remand and directed the A.P. police not to arrest the IPS officer, citing that the police didn’t follow the inter-State arrest procedure (didn’t produce an arrest warrant and required documents). Subsequently, the court asked the IGP to cooperative with the investigation.
