The Bengaluru International Airport police have launched a probe against Hunasamaranahalli gram panchayat members after immigration officials on Thursday nabbed a 38-year-old domestic help from Nepal with a fake Indian voter ID card.

The forgery came to light when the officials caught Rekha, who landed at Kempegowda International Airport in the city from Nepal and submitted an Indian voter ID card for immigration clearance.

She was working as a domestic help in Bengaluru, and was returning from her native place in Nepal.

On suspicion, the officials asked her for more documents, following which she showed her Nepal citizenship ID. Upon further questioning, Rekha revealed that she got the Indian voter ID card from Hunasamaranahalli gram panchayat officials.

She was later handed over to the International Airport police for further investigations. Based on a complaint by Shaliendra Kumar Meena, an immigration officer, the police have registered a case against Rekha charging her under Section 336 (2) (act of forgery) and Section 420 (2) (dealing with cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the BNS, 2023, for further investigation.
